Απόσπασμα λυρικής ποίησης του Ανακρέοντα γραμμένο σε ανακρεοτική στροφή. Ο Ανακρέων ο Τήιος (περίπου 572 π.Χ. – περίπου 485 π.Χ.) ήταν αρχαίος Έλληνας λυρικός ποιητής, θεωρούμενος ένας από τους εννέα λυρικούς ποιητές της αρχαιότητας. Ο Ανακρέων, αν και υπερασπιστής του μέτρου, θεωρήθηκε από τους μεταγενέστερούς του λανθασμένα γλεντζές και μέθυσος.

Anacreon was a Greek lyric poet, notable for his drinking songs and hymns. Later Greeks included him in the canonical list of nine lyric poets. Anacreon wrote all of his poetry in the ancient Ionic dialect. Like all early lyric poetry, it was composed to be sung or recited to the accompaniment of music, usually the lyre. Anacreon's poetry touched on universal themes of love, infatuation, disappointment, revelry, parties, festivals and the observations of everyday people and life.

Μπρος φέρε, παιδί μου, την κούπα,
για να την αδειάσω μονορούφι.
Ανάμιξε στον κρατήρα
δέκα ποτήρια νερό
με πέντε κρασί
γιατί δεν θέλω να μεθύσω
και να φερθώ άπρεπα

Ας μην κάνουμε
πάλι ένα συμπόσιο με θόρυβο και κραυγές
όπως οι Σκύθες. Ας πιούμε ήρεμα
κι ας τραγουδήσουμε ωραία τραγούδια.

Translation:

Come now, lad, bring me a cup, so that I can drink a deep draught. Pour in ten ladles of water, and five of wine, so that once again I can respectably make my devotions to Bacchus. Come again then, and let us not practise Scythian drinking with all its banging and crashing, but rather drink moderately, and with beautiful hymns.
